MLK Community Healthcare in Los Angeles is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support registered nurses in delivering safe, timely, and high-quality care to patients. You will assist with daily living activities, monitor vitals, and respond to patient needs with empathy and professionalism.

This role requires at least six months of relevant experience, BLS certification, and the ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Six months of recent hospital/clinic/SNF or home health experience as CNA or similar.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Workplace Violence Prevention training required within 30 days.
  • California State CNA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Answer patient calls using signals/bells/intercom to determine needs.
  • Position bedridden patients as needed.
  • Assist with activities of daily living and mobility.
  • Review dietary restrictions and allergies to plan meals.
  • Record intake and outputs; report changes.
  • Record vital signs as directed.
  • Gather information from caregivers and staff about plans.
  • Observe patients for distress or unusual symptoms.
  • Document observations to nurses.
  • Remind patients to take medications or supplements.
  • Support rounding and hospital mission.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

The Patient Care Technician supports the work of the Registered Nurse to meet the needs of patients in order to provide safe, efficient, timely and excellent high quality care.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Answer patient call signals, signal lights, bells, or intercom systems to determine patients' needs.
  • Turn or reposition bedridden patients.
  • Provide physical support to assist patients to perform daily living activities, such as getting out of bed, bathing, dressing, using the toilet, and standing, walking, or exercising.
  • Review patients' dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences to ensure patient receives appropriate diet.
  • Measure and record food and liquid intake or urinary and fecal output, reporting changes to medical or nursing staff.
  • Record vital signs, such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, or respiration rate, as directed by medical or nursing staff.
  • Gather information from caregivers, nurses, or physicians about patient condition, treatment plans, or appropriate activities.
  • Observe or examine patients to detect symptoms that may require medical attention, such as bruises, open wounds, cognition, abnormal vital signs, and any signs of distress or blood in urine.
  • Document or otherwise report observations of patient behavior, complaints, or physical symptoms to nurses.
  • Remind patients to take medications or nutritional supplements.
  • Comply with the hospital’s mission and values.
  • Take an active role in the importance of rounding.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Pay Rate Type

Hourly

Salary Range (Depending on Experience)

$21.33 - $31.62

Position Requirements
  • Education
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Qualifications/Experience
  • Six (6) months of experience, within the last three (3) years, in a hospital, clinic or in a SNF/Home Health setting as a nurse assistant, care partner, medical assistant or student nurse with one semester in a clinical setting. Internal candidates without the required experience but have a Certified Nursing Assistant license will be considered at management’s discretion.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Must complete annual Workplace Violence Prevention Program/Certificate, per hospital policy, during initial training/orientation but not to exceed 30 days from hire/transfer.
  • Current California State Nurse Assistant certification preferred.
  • A solid understanding of human anatomy, basic medical terminology, and rehabilitation principles is desired.
