Job summary

MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center is seeking a Patient Care Tech to support clinical staff by providing direct patient care and performing tests as assigned. You will join a large team at MercyOne Central Iowa, founded by the Sisters of Mercy, with a long history in Des Moines.

The role involves 8-hour day shifts from Monday to Friday, assisting with patient activities, safety, and comfort, and collaborating with radiologic and nursing teams.

Qualifications

• Healthcare experience is required or highly preferred.
• Duties include direct patient care and safety.
• Must follow safety, documentation, and emergency procedures.

Responsibilities

• Delivers assigned patient care and treatment as delegated by a Radiologic Technologist.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living and mobility.
• Responds to patient calls and ensures safety and comfort.
• Measures vital signs and documents health records.
• Initiates or assists with emergency support measures (CPR, etc.).
• Performs post-mortem care as required.
• Prepares patients and rooms for procedures and transfers; handles equipment setup.

As a Patient Care Tech at MercyOne, you will be supports the professional clinical staff by providing direct patient care and performing studies and tests as assigned. These duties may vary by shift or may be unit-specific.

Schedule

• 8-hour shifts; Days; M-F 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM

General Requirements

• Delivers assigned patient care and treatment as delegated by a Radiologic Technologist.
• Performs or assists patients with activities including personal hygiene, bathing, ambulation, transporting, range of motion exercises, dressing/undressing, feeding, changing bandages, elimination needs, and emptying drainage devices.
• Responds to patient calls and anticipates patient needs. Assures patient safety and comfort through use of safe patient handling techniques, regular rounding, environmental maintenance, equipment maintenance, and other appropriate safety measures.
• Calculates intake and output (excluding IVs). Measures vital signs. Makes entries to patient health records as consistent with scope of job duties and in compliance with company policy.
• Initiates or assists with emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury).
• Performs post-mortem care.
• Sets up equipment and supplies for procedures. Prepares patients and rooms for procedures, admissions, and transfers. Discharges patients from system

Minimum Qualification

• Must be 16 years of age.
• Healthcare experience highly preferred
• Completion of
  • 75-hour, 120-hour or 150-hour Certified Nursing Assistant program OR be listed as having passed CNA competency testing on the Iowa Direct Care Worker registry.
• Currently enrolled in
  • RN program or a Graduate of an accredited RN or LPN program, certification as an EMT in the State of Iowa OR formally holding a medical occupational specialty from the military may be substituted for completion of CNA program and CNA Registry.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certified within six (6) weeks of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
