Job summary

UHC United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, West Virginia is seeking a patient care technician to support licensed medical staff by providing direct and indirect patient care, including personal and comfort needs, under RN supervision.

Responsibilities include observing patient status, assisting with admissions, transfers and discharges, recording vital signs, assisting with hygiene, and maintaining a clean, safe environment to prevent infections.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Must meet one of the following: Nationally certified patient care technician; Completion of WVUM Patient Care Technician program; Current CNA certification issued by the state where services are provided.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and report patient concerns or changes in condition to a registered nurse.
  • Assist the RN with admissions, transfers, discharges and general patient care.
  • Record vital signs and assist with personal hygiene and patient comfort.
  • Assist in specimen collection and other activities for assigned patients.
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment to help prevent infections and ensure safety.
  • Report equipment issues to appropriate personnel per procedure.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures per protocol.
  • Communicate nutrition issues to the RN as needed.
  • Assist department with administrative tasks and answer call bells.
