Job summary

West Tennessee Healthcare is seeking a Nursing Unlicensed professional in Jackson, TN to provide hygienic care and routine procedures for assigned patients under supervision. You will support vital signs, admissions, telemetry setup, patient mobility, meals, documentation, and transport, while maintaining clean work areas and accurate records.

This role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and BLS certification within orientation.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS certification must be obtained within the orientation period.
• Experience preferred; on-unit training may be provided.

Responsibilities

• Answer call lights by carrying wireless phones or by the console.
• Obtain and record patient vital signs per unit specification.
• Assist with admissions by taking vital signs, obtaining weights, assisting with gowns, placing telemetry patches and leads.
• Reposition patients every two hours and encourage turning.
• Ambulate patients in the hall as needed.
• Assist patients with meals: help to chair, offer hygiene and prepare eating area.
• Pass food trays and feed patients who cannot feed themselves.
• Collect and record intake and output accurately.
• Document orders into the EMR, complete related forms, schedule procedures, and notify licensed personnel.
• Assist with transporting patients.
• Keep department tidy and stocked; clean rooms and equipment areas.
• Assist with incentive spirometers.
• Document baths, turns, oral intake/output, catheter care, weights, meals consumed, ambulation, and related activities.

Job Description Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Director, Clinical Manager, and Charge Nurse. Responsible for providing hygienic care and assigned procedures for assigned patients based on age-specific needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Answers call lights by carrying wireless phones or by the console.
• Obtains and records patient Vital Signs per unit specification.
• Assists with new admissions by taking vital signs, obtain weights, and assist patient with a gown, places telemetry patches, leads and telemetry box on patients.
• Responsible for repositioning patients every two hours, whether it is turning or encouraging patients to turn themselves.
• Ambulates patients in the hall as needed.
• Assists patients with meals by getting patients up to the chair before if appropriate offers hygiene and prepares the area for eating.
• Passes food trays and feeds patients who cannot feed themselves.
• Collects and accurately records intake and output.
• Assembles patient’s charts, records patient information on unit records and routes patient’s charges.
• Enters any written orders into the electronic medical record, completes related forms, schedules procedures via computer and/or manual process, adds forms related to procedures to chart and notifies licensed personnel.
• Assists with transport patients.
• Helps keep department tidy by putting up stock, and clean rooms such as break room, microwave, refrigerator, med room, dirty room, linen room, and equipment room.
• Assists with incentive spirometers.
• Responsible for documenting: baths, turns, Oral Intake and Output obtained from Foley catheter, urinal or collection vessel, shaves, mouth care, peri and or Foley care, Vital Signs, linen changes, shampoos, weights, the percentage of meals consumed on all of their assigned patients, ambulation, incentive spirometer usage, bowel movements, and the number of times patients were up in a chair.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

• On or after June 1, 2013, High School diploma or equivalent required. If an employee has less than the foregoing level of education and employed in good standing in this position prior to this date no further education is required to maintain employment.

LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:

• BLS certification must be obtained within the orientation period, and certification must be kept current while in this position.

EXPERIENCE:

• Preferred, but may be trained by qualified personnel on the unit.
