Job summary

Lowell General Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Tech to join the Acute Care Transition Team. You will provide expert inpatient nursing support under physician direction, helping with ADLs, room preparation, and safe patient handling.

This role emphasizes problem-solving, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and improving patient flow and outcomes. Hours are 24 hours/week, night shift, with alternating weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and BLS certification.
• Preferred: at least 1 year of healthcare experience and nursing service experience.
• Certifications such as CNA or equivalent are valued.

Responsibilities

• Under nurse direction, perform activities of daily living with patient safety in mind.
• Prepare patient rooms for admission and maintain a clean, safe environment.
• Prioritize patient care according to nursing direction and discharge plans.
• Transport patients to procedures and discharge as directed.
• Operate and clean equipment safely; assist with meals as needed.
• Perform technical tasks such as glucometer use and specimen collection.
• Document patient data accurately and promptly.
• Provide sit­ter duties with continuous observation per guidelines.
• Deliver clerical support as needed and greet visitors professionally.
• Answer calls politely and route inquiries appropriately.
• Screen entry to the department and enforce security policies.
• Complete admissions, transfers, and discharges in an organized manner.
• Maintain paper components in patient charts.

Job Profile Summary

This role focuses on providing professional and nonprofessional nursing care services in accordance with physician orders. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Nursing Support duties: Provides basic care services to patients, but does not have an RN or LPN license. Positions in this nursing support work under the direction of physicians, mid-level practitioners, and may work under the direction of registered nurses depending on their unit. A clinical technologist role that has specialized knowledge or skills gained through a combination of vocational education, training, and experience. This role will be most commonly applied to patient care and/or scientific/laboratory jobs. An experienced level role requiring basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and requiring vocational or technical education. Works under moderate supervision, works through problems of a routine nature, but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures and communicates information that requires some explanation or interpretation.

Minimum Qualifications

• 1. High School diploma or equivalent required
• 2. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred Qualifications

• 1. One (1) year of healthcare experience and nursing service experience
• 2. Certified patient care, clinical associate, certified nursing assistant or equivalent

Duties and Responsibilities

• 1. Under the direction of a nurse, performs all aspects of activities of daily living (ADLs) patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety.
• 2. Prepares patient rooms for admission.
• 3. Maintains a clean and safe environment for the patient.
• 4. Prioritizes patient care according to nursing direction, and discharge plan.
• 5. Transports patient to procedures/discharge within/from hospital as directed.
• 6. Cleans and operates equipment safely and correctly.
• 7. Prepares patients for meals, assists with meals or feeds patient as necessary.
• 8. Performs technical tasks, i.e. use of glucometer, lift assisted devices, and collect specimens.
• 9. Collects, records and reports accurate patient data in a timely manner
• 10. Performs the duties of a Patient Sitter and maintain continuous observation of a patient as outlined in the Sitter guidelines.
• 11. Provides clerical support as needed.
• 12. Greets visitors in a professional, friendly manner and directs to appropriate destination.
• 13. Answers phone in professional and friendly manner and directs caller to appropriate person
• 14. Screens all persons requesting access to the department for appropriateness of entry. Enforces department security policies.
