Job summary

ClearSky Health seeks a dedicated Patient Care Technician to provide direct bedside care under RN supervision in a hospital setting. The role emphasizes infection prevention, safety, and compassionate patient interaction.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED strongly preferred.
  • 2 years of experience in inpatient hospital setting preferred.
  • Current BLS required.
  • Knowledge of current clinical operations and procedures.
  • Infection prevention and proper body mechanics.
  • General computer skills including data entry, word processing, email, and records management.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and complete complex tasks.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection prevention standards.
  • Ability to maintain proper levels of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work closely and professionally with others at all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Reports changes in patient condition to nursing staff.
  • Delivers basic patient care including bathing, toileting, feeding, and grooming.
  • Records vital signs, intake/output, and weights.
  • Transfers patients using proper body mechanics.
  • Prepares unit and patient rooms for admissions.
  • Maintains clean, safe, and organized beds and rooms.
  • Responds to patient and family calls and requests promptly.
  • Observes infection prevention standards and safety.
  • Performs other duties to support department effectiveness.

Job description

The Patient Care Technician, working under the direct supervision of Registered Nurse, is primarily responsible for providing direct, non-invasive bedside care to patients. This position must integrate company values into daily practice.

Essential Functions:
  • Prioritizes and delivers basic patient care, including bathing, toileting, feeding, grooming, etc.
  • Performs and documents vital signs, measures and records intake and output, weights, specimen collections, etc.
  • Transfers patients utilizing proper body mechanics and safe patient handling techniques.
  • Reports any changes observed in condition or behavior of patient to appropriate nursing personnel.
  • Assists in preparing unit, patient rooms, and patient beds for receiving patient admissions.
  • Maintains bed and room in a clean, neat, safe, and comfortable manner.
  • Removes supplies and equipment not in use; placing furnishings and equipment out of the path in order to provide a safe, neat, and organized area.
  • Adheres to patient rounding expectations and standards.
  • Assists in maintaining a physical, social, and psychological environment conducive to providing maximal patient comfort and optimizing healing.
  • Promptly and appropriately responds to patient and family calls and requests.
  • Appropriately designates applicable charges to individual patients using hospital’s established system.
  • May be required to work during inclement weather and other staffing emergencies.
  • Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Assesses environmental risks for safety and implements appropriate precautions.
  • Complies with appropriate and approved safety and Infection Prevention standards.
  • Maintains regular attendance in keeping with assigned work schedule.
  • Completes required trainings, as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the organization.
Minimum Job Requirements
Minimum Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent strongly preferred.

Required Licenses, Certifications, and/or Documentation:
  • Current BLS required.

Physical Requirements Over the Course of a Shift:
  • A significant amount of standing, walking, bending, reaching, carrying, lifting, pushing, and pulling, often for prolonged periods of time.
  • Both gross and precise motor functions.
  • Lifting/exerting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Possible exposure to bodily fluids.
  • Visual acuity required for patient assessment and documentation of care.
  • Acute hearing required for accurate patient assessment.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment and computer keyboard.
  • Close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
