Job summary

Firelands Health is seeking a dedicated patient care support role to assist with vital signs, feeding, hygiene, and routine procedures. This position emphasizes teamwork, safe patient handling, and maintaining confidentiality in a busy clinical setting.

Applicants should have a HS diploma or GED, with active enrollment acceptable if not yet completed. Current BLS is required or obtained within 30 days of hire. A strong service orientation is essential for this role.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent direct patient healthcare experience.
  • Active enrollment in high school or state-approved GED program if diploma not yet obtained.
  • Documentation of completion or current enrollment required at time of hire.
  • Current BLS certification required or obtained within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with delivering patient care: obtain vitals, assist with feeding, toileting, hygiene care, finger-stick glucose readings, maintain skin integrity, perform EKGs, and assist with ambulation and transfers.
  • Perform routine procedures including surgical skin preps and enemas.
  • Schedule diagnostic procedures and coordinate orders with Physicians, Charge Nurses, direct care givers, and other departments.
  • Answer call lights promptly and notify appropriate personnel of patient needs.
  • Demonstrate service excellence and support unit goals for patient satisfaction.
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and take appropriate action.
  • Collect data, report information and/or perform interventions to improve quality issues.
  • Obtain patient information/data and observe confidentiality.
  • Enter charges for procedures, supplies and equipment as applicable.
  • Report problems to appropriate person/department and assist in resolution.

What You Will Do:

  • Schedules diagnostic procedures/tests/appointments, effectively communicating and co-coordinating orders with Physicians, Charge Nurses, direct care givers, ancillary departments, and other facilities.
  • Answers call lights timely and notifies appropriate personnel of patient needs immediately.
  • Demonstrates service excellence and strives to assist the unit to meet established goals for our patient satisfaction.
  • Recognizes significant changes in patient’s condition and takes appropriate action.
  • Collect data, report information and/or perform interventions for the purpose of improving a variety of quality issues.
  • Obtain patient information/data and observes confidentiality.
  • Orders and enters charges for procedures, supplies, equipment as applicable.
  • Reports problems or concerns to the appropriate person or department and will assist in the resolution whenever possible.
  • Must be flexible, maintain adaptability, and be a team player.
  • Positive professional communication skills and guest relations; projects a positive impression of the Medical Center.
  • Perform VS, height, weight, and visual acuity in triage.
  • Assist with sterile field set up for suturing and procedures.
  • May perform other patient care activities as trained and directed by the RN.
What You Will Need:
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent direct patient healthcare experience required.
    • Individuals who have not yet obtained a diploma or GED with equivalent experience must be actively enrolled in high school, or a state-approved GED program.
    • Documentation of completion or current enrollment is required at time of hire.
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Current BLS certification required or obtained within 30 days of hire.
