Job summary

Rochester Regional Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join the Med Surg team on the 3rd Floor. This part-time position offers 24 hours per week with 12-hour shifts at the Batavia location, providing essential patient care under RN supervision.

The role emphasizes direct patient care, teamwork, and compassionate support for patients and families. Candidates should have CNA certification or related training, with strong communication and service orientation.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 18.
• Preferred Nursing Fundamentals or CNA certification or MA training.
• Associates degree or higher preferred.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and indirect activities to support unit functioning.
• Participate as a member of the care delivery team.
• Care for patients' nutrition, skin, elimination, hygiene, bathing, and bed changes.
• Take vital signs: temp, pulse, respirations, BP, and pain level.
• Demonstrate communication skills and provide compassionate support.
• Model teamwork within the care delivery team.
• Assist with ambulation, feeding, transferring, or lifting patients.
• Assist with admission, discharge and transfer of patients.
• May perform clerical duties like transcription and chart maintenance.
• Assist mobility: sitting, standing, walking.
• (Cath lab only) Stock rooms and handle meds/sharps on OR field.

Job Title: Patient Care Technician

SUMMARY:

Provides direct or indirect patient care in accordance with treatment plans as determined/delegated by a licensed nurse or RN. Assists with tasks necessary for the general management and organization of the patient care unit, being flexible meeting patient and/or unit needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide direct patient care & indirect activities to facilitate unit functioning.
• Participates as a member of the care delivery team.
• Provide safe and competent care for patients with relationship to nutritional, skin integrity, elimination & hygiene needs including bathing, grooming and changing bed linens.
• Take patient vital signs including temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure and pain level.
• Demonstrate excellent communication skills, compassion and any other kind of support needed for the patient and patient family members.
• Demonstrates exceptional communication with the members of the care delivery team modeling teamwork for other team members.
• Assist with ambulation, feeding, transferring or lifting of patients.
• Assist with the admission, discharge and transfer of patients.
• May also perform clerical duties including transcription & maintenance of patient charts.
• Assists patient with mobility, such as sitting, standing, and walking.
• (Cath lab only) - Stocks rooms, may handle meds, sharps and syringes on the OR field.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum age requirement: 18

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Completion of one of the following: Nursing Fundamentals, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification, experience as a medical assistant/technician in a health related facility or participation in a Patient Care Technician training program.
• Associates degree
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20-50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements.

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
