Job summary

Ardent Health Services in Tyler, TX is seeking a Patient Care Tech (PCT) for night or day shifts on a full-time basis. The role supports patients with daily activities, monitors vitals, collects specimens, and assists with treatments under RN supervision.

The ideal candidate will hold a Texas CNA or PCT certification, maintain BLS, and meet the high school diploma requirement. Hospital experience in acute or long-term care is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Active certification within the State of Texas.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.
• Completion of approved CNA or PCT certification, or pending nursing program completion within one semester.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, and other ADLs.
• Observe patients’ progress and relay reports to Registered Nurse or medical staff.
• Record vital signs and collect specimens for lab tests.
• Provide basic patient transport and housekeeping duties.
• Measure intake/output, assist with range of motion, and perform ECGs as ordered.
• Assist with treatments, catheter care, suture/staple removal, splinting, and other procedures as directed.
• Coordinate daily unit activities and participate in performance improvement efforts.

Learn About a Day in the Life of a PCT:

• Assisting patients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, and other ADLs.
• Observes patients’ progress to prepare and disseminate reports to Registered Nurse or other medical staff.
• Obtains and records patients' vital signs and collects specimens for lab tests.
• Provides basic patient transport and housekeeping duties.
• Measures and records patients' intake and output and other measurements in accordance with unit routines, assist patients with range of motion, and draws blood.
• Assists in providing treatments to patients, performs technical procedures such as feeding tube and catheter administration, suture/staple removal, splinting of extremities, and performs ECGs as ordered.
• Coordinates daily activities for assigned unit to include general clerical and administrative support and participates in performance improvement activities to enhance and maintain personal and department qualifications and standards of performance.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Must maintain active certification within the State of Texas.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.
• Completion of approved CNA or PCT certification, or may be in the senior year of nursing school with less than one semester to complete the nursing program.

Preferred Job Requirements:

• 5 years' experience in acute or long-term care.
• Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy.
• Competent to perform in at least two general areas of practice (cross-trained and cross-competent to cover more than one hospital service, role, or function).
