Job summary

UNM Hospitals seeks a General Pediatrics Unit assistant to provide basic patient care, perform vital signs, and support the nursing station. Responsibilities include ADL assistance, documentation in the EMR, and adherence to patient safety policies.

The role involves observing patients across age groups, following the therapeutic plan, and engaging in professional development activities. A CPR/BLS credential and at least 1 year of related experience are required, with a sign-on bonus available.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Completion of MA/PCT/CNA or equivalent nursing program.
• 1 year of directly related experience required.
• Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo is a plus.
• CPR for Healthcare/BLS required within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• PATIENT OBSERVATION - Observe patient to ensure safety and report observations to Charge Nurse.
• PATIENT CARE - Take and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, BP and intake-output.
• PATIENT CARE - Assist with activities of daily living (ADL) such as meals, ambulation, hygiene, linen changes and toileting.
• PATIENT CARE - Maintain therapeutic care plan and minute-to-minute care for high-risk patients.
• PATIENT CARE - Complete documentation in the Electronic Medical Record.
• PATIENT CARE - Complete specific skills listed in the University of New Mexico, Unlicensed Assistive Personnel Specific Functions Matrix.
• DEVELOPMENT - Engage in ongoing professional development through educational programs and workshops.
• PATIENT SAFETY - Follow patient safety policies and procedures.
• PATIENT SAFETY - Proactively seek safety improvements by questioning current policies.
• PATIENT SAFETY - Identify and report environmental conditions that may risk patients.
• PATIENT SAFETY - Report potential safety concerns and near misses promptly.

Position Summary:
Provide basic patient care to include tube insertion, wound care and phlebotomy. Assist in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating the activities occurring in the nursing station by performing clerical and receptionist duties and maintaining the physical environment of the area. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.

Detailed responsibilities:

• PATIENT OBSERVATION - Observe patient to ensure their safety and well being; report observations to Charge Nurse or appropriate designee
• PATIENT CARE - Provide basic patient care; take and record vital signs to include temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure and intake-output measurements
