Job summary

St. Louis Children's Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Support Supervisor to oversee Unit Secretaries and Milk Technicians in the NICU. This full-time role includes Monday–Friday with weekend rotation and night shift coverage.

The supervisor will lead staffing, training and performance evaluation, coordinate with other departments, and drive process improvements while ensuring safety and regulatory standards are met.

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of experience in patient care support or supervision.
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's degree preferred.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct patient care support staff (Unit Secretaries, Milk Techs).
  • Manage hiring, training, workflow assignment, performance evaluation and development plans.
  • Contribute to staffing, budgeting and expense management aligned with department goals.
  • Lead unit services operations and coordinate with other departments.
  • Support process improvement initiatives and ensure regulatory compliance.

Preferred Qualifications
Role Purpose

Supervises and directs needs associated with patient care support services.

Responsibilities
  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • May participate in the development of departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets and having direct responsibility for adhering to those goals. This includes responding to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
  • Leads and supervises support services staff and assigned functional areas.
  • Assists with operations of unit services and integration with other departments.
  • Supports and leads process improvement efforts.
  • Promotes a safe environment by ensuring regulatory requirements are completed as assigned to support staff.
  • Coordinates the intake and dismissal of all outside agency personnel, including agency contracts with the hospital; procurement; management and confirmation of short term assignments; and scheduling.
