Job summary

Independent Health is seeking a Patient Care Specialist for its Williamsville location to support pharmacy operations and patient services. You will handle incoming and outgoing calls about drug delivery, set-up and related services, and coordinate with patients, doctors, and insurers.

The role requires good communication, pharmacy exposure, and accuracy in data entry, billing, and document management. A hybrid work arrangement with onsite attendance is required at the Williamsville office.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year of high-volume pharmacy experience or 6 months in the Patient Care Specialist role or in Reliance Operations & Compliance.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Answer patient inquiries about billing, procedures, policies and services by phone.
  • Act as liaison between patients, insurance providers, doctors and staff.
  • Maintain patient records, filing and documentation duties.
  • Set up data entry and packaging/shipping tasks.
  • Handle financial arrangements and collect co-pays.
  • Coordinate benefits and financial assistance.
  • Assist with prior authorization and billing processes.
  • Collaborate with patient services and other departments to improve processes.

The Patient Care Specialist is primarily responsible for incoming and outgoing calls from customers regarding drug delivery, set-up and all related services.QualificationsHigh School diploma or GED required.One (1) year of experience working in a high volume pharmacy, or equivalent setting, required, or six (6) months as a temporary associate in the Patient Care Specialist role or Reliance Operations & Compliance department. National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) preferred.Experience working with on line claims processing system preferred.Effective oral and written communication skills and an aptitude for working with other health care professionals.Ability to lift a minimum of 5lbs.Proven examples of displaying the Reliance values: Collaborative, Accessible, Results-Oriented, Empowering, and Supportive.Essential AccountabilitiesA patient care specialist through incoming and outgoing calls answers patient inquiries about billing, procedures, policies and available services.Act as a liaison between patients and insurance companies, and facilitate communication between patients and doctors, medical staff and administrative staff.Maintain patient records; filing, documentation dutiesSet up, data entry.Packaging and shipping.Financial arrangements, collecting co-payments.Coordination of benefits.Financial assistance coordination.Prior Authorization assistance with offices.Billing.Work as a team member within the patient services department and all other departments to promote information sharing and continuous process improvement.Specialists must function in strict accordance with standard, written procedures and guidelines with deviation approved by the supervising pharmacist.This is a hybrid position with onsite attendance required at our Williamsville location.Immigration or work visa sponsorship will not be provided for this positionHiring Compensation Range: $21.50 - $22.50 hourlyCompensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to skills, education, location and experience.In addition to base compensation, associates may be eligible for a scorecard incentive, full range of benefits and generous paid time off.
