Cleveland Clinic’s J5-2 Thoracic Surgery Stepdown Unit has a unique, exciting and fast-paced environment and is dedicated to delivering excellent patient care. J5-2 specializes in esophagectomies, thoracotomies, hiatal hernia repairs, bilateral lung volume reduction, open-heart surgery preparation and congenital chest abnormality repairs, conducts procedures such as thoracentesis, paracentesis and Claggett's Window dressing change, and treats patients for heart failure, chest pain and cardiac arrhythmias. Nurses on this unit commonly use chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, Jejunostomy tubes with tube feeding, Jackson Pratt drains, and PCAs (patient-controlled analgesics).
