Job summary

The University of Kentucky is seeking an experienced Assistant Patient Care Manager for the Neonatal ICU in Lexington, KY. This role will supervise nursing staff on assigned units, support scheduling, payroll, and staff development to ensure high-quality patient care.

The A-PCM works with the PCM to maintain regulatory standards, oversees clerical staff when needed, and adapts to a 24/7 hospital schedule including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Required Education: BSN.
  • Required Related Experience: 1.5 yrs / 18 months of RN Experience.
  • Required License/Registration/Certification: RN.

  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff. Must be able to move about in a complex physical environment. The essential functions for this position include the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds occasionally and 25-50 pounds frequently; as well as stand, walk and sit for long periods of time. The conditions of work may involve exposure to communicable diseases, hazards of radiation, and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments
  • Shift: Must be open for a variable schedule that may require days/evenings/nights, as hospital is open 24/7. Must be available for weekends/and or holidays, per departmental needs.
  • Job Summary: The Assistant Patient Care Manager (A-PCM) supports the patient care manager (PCM) whose human resource span of control exceeds acceptable UKHC standards. He/She will provide supervision, coaching, mentoring and opportunities for growth to nursing staff and assist in the day-to-day management of the nursing unit(s). The A-PCM assists with scheduling, payroll management, monitoring of staff competencies, evaluation of staff performance, and special projects as assigned by the PCM. He/she will serve as the manager for clerical staff as appropriate on the assigned unit(s). Increased supervision and staff coaching/mentoring is associated with decreased staff turnover and improved patient outcomes. The Assistant Patient Care Manager (A-PCM) provides clinical and managerial oversight on the shifts he/she is assigned. The A-PCM supports the Patient Care Managers to develop nursing staff at all levels to ensure nursing practice that supports exemplary patient care, compliance with regulatory/accreditation standards and exceptional patient experience, and are responsible for direct supervision of staff and support of patient care manager
  • Skills / Knowledge / Abilities: This position also requires the ability to function effectively in stressful situations, skills in group dynamics, problem solving, interviewing, observation, counseling, and teaching.
  • Preferred Education / Experience: BSN with 4 years of related job experience preferred. Previous management experience preferred.
