Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Patient Care Assistant (UAP) to assist in individualized patient care under the supervision of the RN or LPN, helping patients achieve their highest level of wellness. You will collaborate with team members to support daily clinical and non-clinical tasks essential to patient care.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED (CNA/CPTC preferred) and the ability to participate in Mercy's UAP training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, CNA/CPTC, or enrolled in Mercy's UAP training program or currently a Mercy coworker.
• BLS certification within one month of hire.
• PCA competencies to be completed within 3 months of hire.
• No prior experience required.
• Minimum physical requirements: ability to push/pull/lift 50 pounds; prolonged standing and walking.

Position Details

• Education: High school diploma, G.E.D, CNA/CPTC. or enrolled in a healthcare career program through their high school curriculum or age 18 and able to participate in Mercy's UAP training program, and/or a current co-worker of Mercy.
• Licensure:
• Experience: None required.
• In the state of practice: If no previous experience, Mercy will provide a required 175-hour training program that meets the state of practice Department of Health and Senior Services requirements. The program will be completed as part of the new hire orientation process and must be completed within 90 days of hire to remain in the PCA position per state guidelines.
• Certifications: BLS Required within one month of hire, completion of PCA competencies within 3 months of hire.

• Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift.
• Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. In 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1856, they traveled to St. Louis. In the years to come, they would establish hospitals throughout the Midwest. Many of these would join together in 1986 as Mercy.
