Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Patient Care Assistant/Patient Care Technician to support patient care under the direction of an RN or LPN. No prior experience is required, and Mercy will provide a 175-hour training program during new hire orientation to meet state requirements, with BLS certification due within one month of hire.

We have full-time and part-time positions on day and night shifts, plus a $1,500 sign-on bonus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; CNA/CPTC preferred or being enrolled in a healthcare program.
• Current Mercy employee considered for the role.
• BLS certification required within 1 month of hire.
• PCA competencies to be completed within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist in individualized patient care under RN/LPN supervision.
• Perform designated clinical procedures and non-clinical tasks essential to patient care.
• Work cooperatively as part of a care team; participate in ongoing training and safety protocols.
• Meet physical requirements including lifting up to 50 pounds and prolonged standing/walking.

Performs designated clinical procedures and non-clinical support tasks essential to providing care to the patient.

Position Details

$1,500 sign on bonus for full time PCA/PCT's Full and Part time positions available on day and night shifts.

• - Education: High school diploma, G.E.D, CNA/CPTC. or enrolled in a healthcare career program through their high school curriculum, and/or a current co-worker of Mercy.
• - Licensure:
• - Experience: None required.
• - In the state of practice: If no previous experience, Mercy will provide a required 175-hour training program that meets the state of practice Department of Health and Senior Services requirements. The program will be completed as part of the new hire orientation process and must be completed within 90 days of hire to remain in the PCA position per state guidelines.
• - Certifications: BLS Required within one month of hire, completion of PCA competencies within 3 months of hire.
• - Other: Minimum Physical Requirements
• - Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• - Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift.
• - Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.

This position is part of a U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Program, designed to provide structured training, mentorship, and career development opportunities that prepare participants for long-term success in healthcare.

Transforming the Health of Our Communities

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. In 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1856, they traveled to St. Louis. In the years to come, they would establish hospitals throughout the Midwest. Many of these would join together in 1986 as Mercy.
