Job summary

Newton-Wellesley Hospital is seeking a Per Diem Patient Care Assistant to assist patients with daily living activities and vital signs under licensed personnel. You will help with bathing, dressing, feeding, and EKGs, and support RNs as needed, including documentation in the EHR.

This role requires strong patient service skills, basic medical terminology knowledge, and the ability to lift up to 35 pounds. Night shifts are available, onsite at 2014 Washington Street.

Qualifications

  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Proficient in EMR documentation.
  • Experience in patient care is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, eating).
  • Take and document vitals (temperature, BP, pulse, respiration) under supervision.
  • Assist with feeding and meal setup; ensure room supply and cleanliness.
  • Support RNs and physicians with examinations and treatments as needed.

Job Summary

Working under the direction of licensed personnel, assists patients with activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Also assists with taking patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes Essential Functions Performs patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including, but not limited to, performing and documenting point of care, vital signs, EKGs, bathing and other sanitary needs of patients, transferring and assisting with ambulation of patients, 1:1 patient observation for safety purposes, and phlebotomy. Assist RNs and physicians with other exams and treatments as required.

  • -Completes all documentation such as height, weight, intake of fluids and food, output of urine/stool/vomit/other drainage, and blood glucose results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • -Assists patients with food tray setup, eating, and feeding, as needed.
  • -Ensures that patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately, as needs indicate and as patient volumes change.
  • -Retrieves equipment from other areas, sets up equipment, cleans equipment between patient use, and reports malfunctioning equipment per organizational policy.
  • -Assists with admitting and discharging patients.
  • -Facilitates orientation of new PCA team members as directed.
  • -Interacts with patients, visitors, and other care team members effectively
  • -Communicates with nursing staff effectively and in a timely manner regarding issues related to patient care and condition.
  • -Fosters a positive, collaborative team environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.
Qualifications
Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred

Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No

Licenses and Credentials
  • Basic Life Support [BLS] - Generic - HR Only preferred
  • Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - Generic - HR Only preferred
  • Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician [National Certification] - Generic - HR Only preferred
Experience

Experience working in patient care/elder care 0-1 year preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • - Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • - Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • - Strong patient/customer service skills.
  • - Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
  • - Proficient in computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.
