Job summary

4100 Newton-Wellesley Hospital is seeking a patient care assistant to support licensed personnel in daily living activities and clinical tasks. You will perform vital signs, basic EKGs, and assist with admissions and discharges in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The role requires strong customer service, ability to follow instructions, and familiarity with EMR systems. Per diem, night shift, onsite work at the Newton campus are offered.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required or preferred.
• BLS certification and relevant clinical credentials preferred.
• Experience with patient care roles and basic medical terminology helpful.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing and eating.
• Take and document vital signs, temperature, pulse, respiration and EKGs as assigned.
• Support with admissions, discharges and 1:1 patient observation for safety.
• Assist clinicians with exams and treatments as needed.
• Document in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and maintain accurate records.
• Ensure patient rooms are stocked, clean and ready for care.

Job Summary Summary Working under the direction of licensed personnel, assists patients with activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Also assists with taking patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes

Essential Functions Performs patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including, but not limited to, performing and documenting point of care, vital signs, EKGs, bathing and other sanitary needs of patients, transferring and assisting with ambulation of patients, 1:1 patient observation for safety purposes, and phlebotomy. Assist RNs and physicians with other exams and treatments as required.

• Completes all documentation such as height, weight, intake of fluids and food, output of urine/stool/vomit/other drainage, and blood glucose results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Assists patients with food tray setup, eating, and feeding, as needed.
• Ensures that patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately, as needs indicate and as patient volumes change.
• Retrieves equipment from other areas, sets up equipment, cleans equipment between patient use, and reports malfunctioning equipment per organizational policy.
• Assists with admitting and discharging patients.
• Facilitates orientation of new PCA team members as directed.
• Interacts with patients, visitors, and other care team members effectively
• Communicates with nursing staff effectively and in a timely manner regarding issues related to patient care and condition.
• Fosters a positive, collaborative team environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.

• Experience Experience working in patient care/elder care 0-1 year preferred

• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Strong patient/customer service skills.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
• Proficient in computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.
