Qualifications

Job Responsibilities
  1. The Patient Care Assistant is responsible for providing nursing care to patients under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse.
  2. All duties include, but are not limited to:
  3. Assisted Daily Living activities within a hospital setting (bathing, changing, toileting, dressing, etc.)
  4. Light housekeeping in patient rooms, utility rooms, linen and storage closets, and hallways.
  5. Clinical patient care that does not require a nursing license.
  6. Assisting with call lights, phone operations, and orienting patient families/visitors, maintaining properly stocked patient care areas.
  7. Maintaining electronic medical records and documenting all patient care interactions accurately.
  8. Reviewing and discussing patient care plans and ongoing activities with the assigned Registered Nurse.
  9. Ensuring efficient patient flow by monitoring room availability, patient intakes, and discharges.
  10. Cleaning patient rooms after discharge with nursing staff assistance, disposing of used items properly, and processing reusable items for sterilization.
  11. Demonstrating knowledge and execution of patient safety practices.
  12. Maintaining professional and responsible behavior while working collaboratively in a team.

Unit Details

T5 - Ortho/Trauma

This is a 30-bed adult and geriatric critical care unit caring for orthopedic, trauma, neurosurgical, joint replacement, and medical overflow patients.

Qualifications
Education Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
Experience
  • Direct patient care experience is preferred but not required.
Certification and Licensure
  • BLS Certification.
  • PA Nurse Aide Certification if hired for the Transitional Sub-Acute Unit at Reading Health Rehabilitation Hospital.
Required Skills
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
