Job Description

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) II performs duties to enhance patient experience while maintaining patient comfort and a safe patient environment. All care is provided based on the concepts inherent in the model of care for TCH which promotes an on-going partnership between patients and families and the team of healthcare providers. The care is culturally based and age-specific. All direct patient care is under the supervision of and is delegated by the Registered Nurse according to the guidelines as set out by the Ohio Board of Nursing. Additionally, a PCA II may exhibit critical thinking skills in escalating concerns.

Responsibilities

Clinical: Performs aspects of clinical care as assigned and instructed by the RN per Ohio Board of Nursing guidelines for delegation. Meets clinical platform of skills guided by the PCA Core Skills Competency Checklist. Also, able to perform the following clinical skills-EKGs, Ostomy Care, obtaining Urine Specimen from a Foley Catheter. Maintains patient confidence and protect operations by keeping patient care information confidential.

Leadership & Accountability: Demonstrates the top behavioral competencies established by Nursing Leadership for our Patient Care Assistants at an elevated level-effectively communicates to patients and families, peers and Unit team, seeks to service customers, resilient to change and willing to be flexible through adverse situations, collaborative with peers and works with a team to solve problems, and is accountable for one's own actions, communications, and development. Is a participant in Unit councils and/or committees. Involved in CIT projects and/or other network and Unit initiatives to learn and gain process improvement skills. Reacts appropriately as a change agent. Coaches and mentors' peers/coworkers, and also supportive of the shadowing experience for candidates during the interview process.

Environment and Safety: Provides and promotes individual patient and unit safety. Also, identifies potential safety hazards and escalates appropriately.

Comfort: Provides comfort and personal hygiene for patients, documenting according to policy. Actively anticipates the patient's needs.

Communication: Orients patient & family to the hospital environment & services provided, facilitates communication throughout the entire hospitalization process. Consistently communicates Unit wide updates to team. Consistently promotes positive communication and culture with peers, patients, and families.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

REQUIRED EDUCATION: High School Graduate/Diploma or GED equivalent

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 1-3 years of experience (Hospitality and/or Healthcare experience preferred)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: PCA II has some knowledge in Microsoft office, PowerPoint, Excel, and EMR.

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS &/or CERTIFICATIONS :

Certification in AHA Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers before patient contact.
