Job summary

4100 Newton-Wellesley Hospital seeks an attentive patient care assistant to support the clinical team onsite. Under RN supervision, you will perform essential care tasks, document vital signs and tests, assist with exams, and ensure patient rooms and equipment are ready and well-maintained.

The role requires strong communication, basic medical terminology knowledge, and the ability to lift up to 35 pounds. Prior patient care experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • BLS Certification preferred.
  • CMA Certification preferred.
  • EMT-Paramedic (MA) preferred.
  • LNA (NH) preferred.
  • 1-2 years patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient care tasks and document vitals, EKGs, and basic care.
  • Assist RNs and physicians with exams and treatments.
  • Maintain stocked, clean patient rooms and equipment.
  • Collect specimens and document data.
  • Operate and disinfect equipment per policy.
  • Record patient information including intake, outputs, and glucose.
  • Assist with feeding and meal setup.
  • Communicate with nursing staff about patient care.
  • Greet and direct Medical Staff, patients, and visitors.

Job Summary $750.00 Sign-On Bonus Summary

Under the direction of a registered/licensed nurse (RN), is a member of the interdisciplinary health care team assists in clinical support functions to promote a safe, compassionate patient care environment.


Essential Functions


  • Perform patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including, but not limited to, performing and documenting point of care, vital signs, EKGs, bathing and other sanitary needs of patients, transferring and assisting with ambulation of patients, feeding patients, etc.

  • Assist RNs and physicians with other exams and treatments as required.

  • Ensure that patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately, as needs indicate and as patient volumes change.

  • Perform specimen collection and documents all appropriate information.

  • Retrieve equipment from other areas, sets up equipment, cleans equipment between patient use, and reports malfunctioning equipment per organizational policy.

  • Documents patient information, such as height, weight, intake of fluids and food, output of urine/stool/vomit/other drainage, and blood glucose results.

  • Assist patients with food tray setup and eating if necessary.

  • Communicate with nursing staff in an effective and timely manner around issues related to patient care and patient condition.

  • Receive and direct Medical Staff, personnel, patients, and visitors.

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred


Licenses and Credentials


  • Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred

  • Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred

  • Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic [Massachusetts] - Massachusetts Office of Emergency Medical Services preferred

  • Nursing Assistant [LNA - New Hampshire] - New Hampshire Board of Nursing preferred


Experience


  • Experience working in patient care/elder care 1-2 years preferred


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Strong patient/customer service skills.

  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.

  • Proficient computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.
