Job summary

Harris Health is seeking a Patient Care Assistant I (PCA I) to support patient care activities in clinic and inpatient units under the supervision of a registered nurse. The PCA I collaborates with the charge nurse and staff nurses to ensure patient care needs are met and safety is maintained.

The role emphasizes basic patient care, medical terminology, communication, organization and computer skills. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, CNA or CMA certification, and BLS

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or GED or technical skills/training appropriate to the specialty area.
• Licensure/Certification: CNA or CMA; nursing students may be exempt if applicable. Certification required if hired before 2021.
• Basic Life Support from an AHA-approved program.
• Other certificates as required by unit/service/clinic.
• Work Experience: 1 year related clinical experience preferred.
• SAMA certification due within 90 days of hire.
• EKG and/or Phlebotomy competency validation as applicable.
• Communication: Above average verbal communication for heavy public contact.
• Other Skills: Medical terminology PC.
• Work Schedule: Weekends and holidays; flexible.

Job Summary
The Patient Care Assistant I (PCA I) is accountable for supporting patient care activities, under the supervision of a registered nurse, in the clinic setting and on inpatient nursing units. The PCA I works closely with the charge nurse and staff nurses to assure patient care needs are met. The PCA I performs patient care activities, as delegated, and adheres to patient safety measures. The PCA I is competent in the performance of basic patient care activities, medical terminology, communication, organizational, and computer skills. The PCA I demonstrates personal and professional effectiveness.
Minimum Qualifications

• Education/Licensure/Specialized Training:
• Education:High School diploma or GED or technical skills/training appropriate to the specialty area.
• Licensure/Certification: a) Certified Nurse Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant. Nursing students actively attending an accredited nursing program or who have graduated are exempt of certification requirement provided a satisfactory completion of first clinical/foundations course. If hired prior to January 2021, certification is not required.
• Basic Life Support from a hospital-based American Heart
  

Association (AHA) approved program.

• Other certificates as required by unit/service/clinic.
• Work Experience: One (1) Year Work Experience related clinical experience preferred.
• Skills/Knowledge: SAMA certification within 90 days of hire.
  

EKG, and/or Phlebotomy competency validation required, as
applicable to specialty area within 6 months of hire.
