Job summary

New Mexico Department of Health is seeking staff to support Sequoyah Adolescent Treatment Center, a secure facility for 13-17-year-old males with a history of violence. The role focuses on daily monitoring, life skills development, and de-escalation within a therapeutic milieu.

Ideal candidates have residential treatment experience or trauma-informed care exposure, with willingness to work varied shifts including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and one year of related experience, or combination of education and experience as described.
  • Direct Care experience preferred; two years in related field may substitute for required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in daily monitoring of adolescent residents in a secure facility.
  • Develop life skills, recreation and social activities, and redirect problematic behavior.
  • Work days, evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays as required; mandatory scheduling.

Why does the job exist?

The position assists in the dally monitoring of residents, working closely with clinical, education, and other milieu staff. Duties may include but are not limited to, developing life skills, recreation and social activities and re-directing patient behavior. This position will require working days, evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays and includes mandatory mandating.

How does it get done?

Crisis Prevention Intervention and Trauma Informed Care are the cornerstone of treatment at Sequoyah Adolescent Treatment Center. De-escalation techniques and coping mechanism are offered to residents and life skills are taught to assist with success upon discharges.

Who are the customers?

Our facility is a secure facility which serves the needs of adolescent males age 13-17 with a history of violence and aggression.

Ideal Candidate

Will have experience:

  • Working in a residential treatment facility;
  • Working in a therapeutic MILIEU;
  • Working recover-oriented and /or trauma-informed-care environments
Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma and one (1) year of experience as it pertains to the essential duties of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience. Direct Care (2) years experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an adolescent treatment center, with exposure to mentally and/or behaviorally challenged residents, who may exhibit unpredictable behaviors. This position may work in an office setting using related office equipment, with exposure to Visual Video Display Terminal and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Pushing, pulling, lifting and/or carrying.

Bargaining Unit Position

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement and all terms/conditions of that agreement apply and must be adhered to.
