Job summary

Surgical Institute of Reading is seeking a full-time Patient Care Aide (PCA) for our Pre/Post Op unit. The role provides direct patient care, assists with linens, ambulation, and transport, and helps maintain a clean patient environment.

Responsibilities include taking vital signs, assisting during examinations and procedures, and ensuring infection control and patient safety while supporting the surgical team. High school diploma or equivalent required; CNA license preferred and current BLS.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Current BLS certification preferred.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant License - preferred.
  • Demonstrates necessary clinical competency.

  • Provides direct patient care by assisting with changing linens, ambulation and transport.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly patient care environment and assists during examinations/procedures.
  • Obtains and records patient vital signs and reports results to the team.
  • Supports peri-operative nursing care and adheres to infection control standards.

Patient Care Aide (PCA) at Surgical Institute of Reading

Provides direct patient care by assisting patients with changing linens, ambulation, and transport. Maintains a clean and orderly patient care environment. Assists during patient examinations and procedures. Obtains and records patient vital signs, provides nutritional intake and reports results and observations. Demonstrates the primary goal of efficiently providing surgical services that exceed customer expectations and improve clinical and financial operations.

Responsibilities
  • Knows and adheres to policies of the Center and demonstrates fiscal responsibility.
  • Follows standards, policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for peri-operative nursing care according to accepted standards.
  • Maintains and demonstrates current skills and knowledge in aseptic technique.
  • Demonstrates ability to understand the unique needs of each age group of the patient population.
  • Follows OSHA and other standards for protection against blood borne pathogens.
  • Seeks involvement in activities that promote professional growth and behavior.
  • Uses good body mechanics.
  • Remains calm and functions as a team member during times of stress and crisis situations.
  • Able to take vital signs, apply monitors, and document appropriately.
  • Performs procedures within scope of practice, including, but not limited to finger stick for blood glucose, bladder scanning, and straight catheterization.
  • Informs Manager of applicable day-to-day situations.
  • Follows employee health and other personnel and staffing policies.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant License - preferred
  • Current BLS.
  • Demonstrates necessary clinical competency.
