Job summary

Washington University in St. Louis is seeking a Billing Support Associate in Creve Coeur, MO to help patients navigate insurance information, referrals, and financial assistance. The role involves registering new patients, reviewing schedules, and guiding the billing process.

You will communicate with patients, third-party payers, and staff, performing basic account maintenance and answering inquiries. A high school diploma and BLS certification within one month are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within one month of hire.
  • Experience with Billing Systems and Third-Party Claims in a medical office or related customer service.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for patient inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains insurance information from patients and counsels on financial assistance options.
  • Registers new patients and assists with form completion.
  • Reviews schedule and updates patient information as needed.
  • Places reminder calls and collects insurance details and referrals.
  • Explains the billing process to patients and answers inquiries from patients and third-party payers.
  • Assists with basic account maintenance and communicates with staff about billing.
  • Helps patients with insurance questions related to billing.
  • Supports scheduling tasks such as sending reminders.

Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Obtains insurance information from patients and counsels alternative ways for financial assistance.
  • Registers all new patients and assists with form completion.
  • Reviews schedule for new patients and makes updates when necessary.
  • Calls patients with appointment time reminders; obtains insurance information and referral forms.
  • Explains billing process to patients; answers incoming inquiries from patients and third-party payers.
  • Explains billing process to other staff; assists with basic account maintenance activities.
  • Assists patients with insurance questions regarding the billing process.
  • Assists staff with sending out reminder cards and other scheduling duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Range

$17.89 - $26.35 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
