Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a dependable patient care assistant to support licensed nurses by observing patients and helping maintain a safe environment.

You will accompany patients to tests, participate in therapies, and provide diversional activities while documenting observations and communicating data to the care team.

CPR certification is required or provided during orientation, with clearances (Act 34/33, FBI) and HIPAA compliance emphasized throughout training.

Qualifications

General Overview

This job supports the professional nurse by observing the patient and assuring the provision of a safe environment.

Essential Responsibilities

• Performs selected activities related to patient care (accompanies patients to tests, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and provides diversional activities). (40%)
• Provides observation to maintain patient safety by physically intervening and immediately communicating the need for additional assistance. (30%)
• Demonstrates effective verbal communication skills by communicating pertinent patient data accurately and in a timely fashion. (10%)
• Documents on patient behavior/activity according to policy (medical or behavioral health needs) (10%)
• Assumes responsibility for own educational development. (10%)
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

Minimum

• High school diploma or GED

Preferred

• Previous healthcare experience preferred.

Additional Employment Requirements

• CPR – American Heart Association
• If not already certified at the time of hire, CPR certification and Crisis Management intervention training will be required and provided during orientation.
