Job summary

Med-Metrix in Hartford, CT is seeking a Patient Advocate to help uninsured and underinsured patients access financial assistance through state, hospital and federal programs. You will complete applications, gather documentation, and coordinate with agencies to ensure benefits are received.

The role requires on-site work, 12:00 PM–8:30 PM, Tuesday through Saturday, and strong communication skills. You will handle PHI per HIPAA, maintain records, and support insurance processes as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; healthcare-related degree preferred.
• 2-3 years of customer service experience preferred.
• Bilingual in Spanish (spoken and written) a plus.
• Ability to work at various client sites as needed.
• Must possess reliable transportation for consistent on-site attendance.
• Ability to use the internet and learn databases.
• Ability to meet monthly productivity goals.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• HIPAA awareness and PHI handling experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with applications for Medical Assistance (MA), hospital charity care, and SSI/SSDI.
• Interview patients at the bedside and in the Emergency Room to assess eligibility and gather information.
• Identify eligibility and collect required documentation.
• Submit and track applications with local assistance offices.
• Provide support for Marketplace insurance when applicable.
• Maintain accurate records and meet productivity goals.
• Verify and update insurances.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Use, protect and disclose patients’ PHI only in accordance with HIPAA standards.
• Understand and comply with Information Security and HIPAA policies and procedures.
• Limit viewing of PHI to the absolute minimum as necessary to perform assigned duties.
