Job summary

MultiCare Health System, Inc. in Lacey, WA is seeking a Patient Access Technician to welcome patients at our off-campus Emergency Departments.

You will complete admissions and registrations according to policy and regulatory requirements, obtain inpatient bed assignments, and pre‑admit all scheduled patients to ensure a smooth admissions process. You will also verify demographic, insurance and third‑party information, determine eligibility, and refer to Financial Counseling when needed.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a health vocational program such as patient access, medical assistance, medical billing and insurance, or medical general.
  • One year of admitting, billing, registration or customer service experience may be considered in lieu of education.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients at off-campus EDs and perform admissions/registrations per policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Obtain inpatient bed assignments, arm banding, addressograph plate, and complete forms for admission/registration.
  • Pre-admit scheduled inpatients/outpatients/ambulatory patients to facilitate smooth processing.
  • Enter reservation in the computer system and notify other areas as needed.
  • Conduct bedside or telephone interviews to collect demographics, insurance and third-party liability information.
  • Verify eligibility and resolve discrepancies; determine need for financial assistance and refer to Financial Counselor when necessary.

However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education.
