Job summary

Ensemble Health Partners in Springfield, IL is seeking a Patient Access Specialist for an on-site role at HSHS - St. John's Hospital.

This part-time night shift (10:30pm-7:00am) offers 16 hours per week and pays $17.00-$18.15 per hour, depending on experience. The role involves admitting duties, MRN assignment, insurance collection, POS billing support, and providing excellent customer service measured by Press Ganey.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of customer service experience.
  • High School Diploma/GED; CRCR within 9 months of hire (Company Paid).

Responsibilities

  • Assign accurate MRNs.
  • Complete medical necessity / compliance checks.
  • Provide proper patient instructions.
  • Collect insurance information.
  • Receive and process physician orders.
  • Utilize overlay tool while delivering excellent customer service.
  • Operate the telephone switchboard for calls.
  • Adhere to policies and provide compassionate service.
  • Meet point of service goals.
  • Use auditing/reporting systems to correct accounts.
  • Pre-register patient accounts and collect demographics/insurance.
  • Process POS collections and payment plans.
  • Explain consent forms and obtain signatures.
  • Distribute patient education documents.
  • Review insurance eligibility in verification system.
  • Screen Medicare patients using ABN software.
  • Distribute designated forms and pamphlets.

This position pays between $17.00 - $18.15/hr based on experience.

This position is an onsite role, and candidates must be able to work on-site at HSHS - St. John's Hospital - in Springfield, IL.

Available Shifts: Part Time 10:30pm-7am every other weekend (16 Hours week).

We are searching for the next Patient Access Specialist champion.

This role is responsible for performing admitting duties for all patients admitted for services at the hospital.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Assign accurate MRNs.
  • Complete medical necessity / compliance checks.
  • Provide proper patient instructions.
  • Collect insurance information.
  • Receive and process physician orders.
  • Utilize an overlay tool while providing excellent customer service as measured by Press Ganey.
  • Operate the telephone switchboard to relay incoming, outgoing and inter‑office calls as applicable.
  • Adhere to policies and provide excellent customer service in these interactions with the appropriate level of compassion.
  • Be held accountable for point of service goals as assigned.
  • Utilize quality auditing and reporting systems to ensure accounts are corrected, including accounts for other employees, departments, and facilities.
  • Conduct audits of accounts and assure all forms are completed accurately and timely to meet audit standards, and provide statistical data to Patient Access leadership.
  • Pre‑register patient accounts prior to patient visits, including inbound and outbound calling to obtain demographic, insurance, and other patient information.
  • Collect point of service collections, past‑due balances, and payment plan options.
  • Explain general consent for treatment forms to the patient/guarantor/legal guardian, obtain necessary signatures and witness name.
  • Explain and distribute patient education documents such as Important Message from Medicare, Important Message from Tricare, Observation Forms, MOON form, Consent forms, and all forms implemented for future services.
  • Review eligibility responses in insurance verification system and appropriately select applicable insurance plan code, enter benefit data to support POS and billing processes for clean claim rates.
  • Accurately screen medical necessity using the Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) software to inform Medicare patients of possible non‑payment, and distribute ABN as appropriate.
  • Distribute and document other designated forms and pamphlets.
