Job summary

Emerus Holdings, Inc. seeks a Patient Access Specialist for a 20-bed small-format hospital. The role acts as a liaison between patients, payers, the Patient Financial Services team, and other healthcare staff to verify demographics, secure payments, and maximize hospital reimbursement.

The incumbent will ensure accurate registrations, verify insurance benefits, obtain authorizations when required, and manage cash handling and documentation according to hospital policies.

Qualifications

• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting.
• Emergency Department registration experience preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors.
• Fluency in English; English/Spanish bilingualism required in the El Paso market.

Responsibilities

• Verify insurance benefits and confirm correct payer and plan in the patient accounting system.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
• Maximize collections by pursuing payments at time of service in a courteous manner.
• Maintain and verify demographic information and assist with transfers as needed.
