Job summary

Temecula Valley Hospital is seeking a Patient Access Coordinator to handle accurate patient registrations, verify benefits, and coordinate insurance requirements. The role emphasizes effective communication with patients, families, physicians, and staff to ensure smooth admission and payment processes.

The incumbent will use tools like Rolodex in SMS and Internet resources to verify information, manage authorizations, and perform HDX reporting across applicable insurances.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and non‑verbally.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with physicians, the public and hospital staff.
  • Ability to discuss personal and financial matters with patients and/or their representatives.
  • Good problem solving and process efficiency skills.
  • Knowledge of insurance benefits, covered services and collection procedures for all insurance programs for acute facilities.
  • General knowledge of office procedures and ability to utilize resources in an organized manner.
  • Type 35‑40 words per minute.
  • Knowledge of computer keyboard.

Responsibilities

  • Register patients accurately with demographics and financial information.
  • Correct insurance coding using tools such as the Rolodex in SMS, matrices for contracted medical groups and the Internet; complete status transfers.
  • Ensure correct room placement for patients and run/accept the HDX reports on all applicable insurances.
  • Obtain and ensure notification, authorizations, verification of benefits and tracking numbers for all accounts/insurances.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, patients, and hospital staff at all times.
  • Demonstrate good problem solving and process efficiency in daily tasks.

Patient Access Coordinator

The Patient Access Specialist/Coordinator (PAS) demonstrates a solid knowledge of the registration process. PAS Specialist is responsible for obtaining all accurate demographic and financial information, completing any and all registrations. Corrects selection of insurance coding and insurance descriptions using tools such as the Rolodex in SMS, Matrixes for contracted medical groups and the Internet; completes all Status Transfers; ensures correct room placement for patients; and runs and accepts the HDX reports on all insurances that apply. Additionally, this role obtains and ensures that all necessary notification, authorizations, verification of benefits and tracking numbers for all accounts/insurances are obtained.

Qualifications
Experience / Training / Education
  • One‑year experience in a hospital admitting or medical business office, with computer experience preferred
  • High School graduate or equivalent preferred
  • CPI Certification within the first 90 days
