Job summary

Corewell Health is seeking a part-time Patient Registration professional at Wayne Hospital to register patients accurately and timely, collecting insurance and demographic data, and entering billing information across emergency, outpatient, and lab settings.

The role also involves handling calls, communicating under HIPAA, preparing liability estimates, and coordinating with pre-service to obtain authorizations as needed. Orientation is mandatory in the first week.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of ICD-9 and ICD-10 CPT coding, medical terminology, and/or revenue cycle knowledge.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks.
  • Knowledge and experience with information systems; proficient with spreadsheets and word processing.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules appointments and performs patient registration including pre-registration and data entry for billing accuracy.
  • Answers phones courteously and directs calls efficiently.
  • Relays information to patients and family per HIPAA regulations.
  • Prepares patient liability estimates for pre-service and walk-ins.
  • Prioritizes work due to competing demands.
  • Communicates with departments and physician offices per Corewell Health standards.
  • Operates standard office equipment (Microsoft systems, calculators, copiers, fax).
  • Obtains/changes authorizations with Pre-service Center or physician offices.
  • Transport and escort patients by wheelchair as needed.
  • Informs patients of delays in appointment times when requested.
  • Calls physicians or Quest labs when required.
  • Participates in safety initiatives and completes required competencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Part-time 2-3 days per week, will rotate working every other weekend.

Must be willing to rotate all shifts - days, afternoons and midnights throughout the week.

Mandatory orientation first week 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Manager of Patient Access, this position is accountable for registering patients in an accurate and timely manner by obtaining individual identifying and biographical data following appropriate check in processes. This position rotates departments (including but not limited to emergency, outpatient, labs).

Essential Functions
  • Schedules appointments as deemed appropriate by the department and performs patient registration activities including pre-registration: obtaining insurance information, medical and demographic data, entry of appropriate diagnostic ICD-9 and/or ICD-10 CPT coding, and other information related to diagnostic procedures in order to ensure billing accuracy.
  • Answers the phones and directs calls in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Relays information to patients and family members according to and following HIPAA Regulations.
  • Prepares patient liability estimations for both pre-service/scheduled services and walk ins.
  • The ability to prioritize work.
  • Utilize effective communication skills to incorporate Corewell Health standards while providing service to patients, colleagues, other departments, and physician offices.
  • Operates standard office equipment such as Microsoft systems, calculators, photocopiers, fax machine.
  • Works with the Pre-service Center and/or physician’s office to obtain or change authorizations required per Imaging protocols or script compliance.
  • Transport and escort patients via wheelchair as needed
  • Informs patients of delays in appointment times when requested.
  • Calls the physician/physician’s office/Quest labs when patients arrive without a script or required labs
  • Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma
  • Knowledge of ICD-9 and ICD-10 CPT coding, medical terminology, and/or revenue cycle knowledge.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks.
  • Knowledge and experience with a variety of information systems, experience with spreadsheet and word processing software, and keyboard proficiency.

Preferred

  • 1 year of relevant experience in a customer service role or healthcare industry.
