Description

The Patient Access Representative serves as the first point of contact for all patients and their families. This highly visible role supports and interacts with patients, families, and healthcare providers. They work directly with patients to ensure accuracy of demographic, insurance, payment, and other vital information. They help manage questions, resolve scheduling concerns, and maintain exceptional patient service. They support the medical care team by streamlining patient processing to improve satisfaction and keep appointments on schedule. The Patient Access Representative directly impacts both the revenue cycle and the patient experience.

What You Will Do
  • Check patients in and out for medical visits.
  • Answer phones to address inquiries and schedule appointments.
  • Assist patients with enrolling and utilizing MyChart.
  • Enter, update, and validate patient demographic, insurance, and financial information for accurate registration.
  • Communicate important information to the medical care team.
  • Contact insurance companies regarding coverage, preauthorizations, billing, and other issues.
  • Collect and process patient payments for copays, coinsurance, deductibles, and prior balances.
  • Assist with completing various paperwork and forms.
  • Work effectively with EPIC workqueues, worklists, and inbasket messages.
  • Schedule referrals and follow-up visits.
  • Scan documents accurately and promptly into EPIC.
  • Serve as a resource for new hire orientation and training.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements, projects, and workflows.
  • Exceed team productivity and quality standards.
  • In some environments, may be cross-trained as a Provider Administrative Assistant.
  • Schedule surgical procedures when required.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with staff and providers to improve patient experience and departmental efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Cross-train to perform other duties as assigned.
  • Participate actively in UH emergency preparedness.
  • May work at off-site locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.
  • Refer to departmental documentation during orientation for specific duties.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of Protected Health Information (PHI), following all policies, including annual training and UH codes of conduct.
