Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Required).
  • Associate's Degree in Healthcare, Business or related field (Preferred).
  • 1 year of related office or retail experience including direct customer contact (Required).
  • EMR experience preferred.
  • AMPFM / MISYS / HIS platform experience preferred.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, professional demeanor.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology and ICD-9/CPT codes, HIPAA knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to speak and write Spanish (Preferred).
  • Follow payer or governmental requirements (Required).
  • Current BLS certification for Healthcare Provider preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive patients who present for services and collect co-pay and deductible amounts.
  • Obtain all necessary signatures from the Guarantor at registration.
  • Document information accurately in the system and demographic fields.
  • Answer telephone inquiries courteously and timely.
  • Refer uninsured/underinsured patients to Financial Counselor.
  • Check patient accounts for prior unpaid liabilities in AMPFM/MISYS.
  • Maintain positive relationships with patients, families, insurers, and staff.
  • Organize and monitor daily work to ensure compliant registration.
  • Perform registrations in HIS system and obtain authorizations as needed.
  • Perform related duties as requested.

Shift: Mon-Fri, Sat, Sun, (Days Vary), Nights, 6:30pm-7am

Position Summary

Posting Note: This is PRN (as-needed) position to join and support our Emergency Department Patient Access Rep team at our Main Campus location for night shift. As a PRN worker, it is required to work 2-night shifts per week to include weekdays, weekends, and holidays, but will have the flexibility to create your schedule accordingly. Weekend and shift differential will apply! The Patient Access Representative performs efficient and orderly registration of all patients. Acts as primary liaison for patients receiving professional and hospital services at Phoenix Children's. Prepares admission forms, obtains necessary documentation and signatures, and confirms demographic information when the patient and/or guarantor present for services. Collects co-pay and deductible amounts at time of service. Some travel from site to site may be necessary based on business needs of the department.

Position Duties
  • Arrives patients who present for professional and hospital services that have been pre-registered and collect co-pay and deductible amounts. Obtains all necessary signatures from the Guarantor at the time of registration or arrival.
  • Accurately documents all information in the appropriate fields and/or account notes. Maintains accuracy when entering demographic and insurance information in the system.
  • Courteously answers the telephone and answers all questions in a timely manner.
  • Identifies and refers uninsured and underinsured patients to the Financial Counselor.
  • Inquires patient account system(s) to identify any previous unpaid liability in AMPFM/Misys.
  • Maintains a positive working relationship with patients/guarantors, insurance companies, government entities, clinical personnel, co-workers and management to promote teamwork, cooperation and a positive public image for Phoenix Children's.
  • Organizes, prioritizes, and monitors daily work activity to ensure that complete, accurate, and compliant registration has been performed in a timely manner.
  • Participates in a variety of unit and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels.
  • Performs registration in appropriate HIS system, verifies insurance coverage, obtains authorization for patients who present for professional and hospital services and have not been pre-registered.
  • Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

Position Qualifications
Education
  • 1. High school diploma or equivalent. (Required)
  • 2. Associate's Degree in Healthcare, Business or related field. (Preferred)
Experience
  • 1. 1 year of related office or retail experience including direct customer contact and service, or equivalent combination of education and experience (Required)
  • 2. Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience. (Preferred)
  • 3. AMPFM, Misys, or HIS platform experience. (Preferred)
Special Skills
  • 1. Effective verbal and written communication skills, professional demeanor, team player with a customer-focused attitude. (Required)
  • 2. Knowledge of Medical Terminology and ICD-9/CPT codes and an understanding of HIPAA privacy laws. (Preferred)
