Job summary

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is seeking a Patient Access Representative to support registration, admissions, and access points across hospital areas. You will gather, verify, and update demographic, insurance, and account data to ensure accurate patient records in the EHR.

Daily tasks include using multiple systems for registration, scheduling, and inquiries, escalating complex issues, and collaborating with the care team to promote a positive access experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required upon hire.
• Experience in healthcare, patient access setting preferred, with knowledge of registration procedures, documentation, and health insurance payers.
• Familiarity with real-time insurance eligibility verifications.

Responsibilities

• Register patients across access points, ensuring accurate demographic information, insurance eligibility, and documentation in the EHR.
• Scan, index, and manage patient documentation to support registration, billing, and clinical workflows.
• Explain financial responsibilities using established tools and collect payments when appropriate.
• Schedule, confirm, and adjust appointments to support timely access to care and clinic workflows.
• Resolve routine registration, insurance, and encounter discrepancies per established workflows.
• Provide patient-facing support via telephone and other channels, routing calls and documenting interactions.

Job Summary And Responsibilities

As our Patient Access Representative, you will perform patient registration and admitting functions across assigned hospital access areas, including the Emergency Department, main registration, admitting, and other patient access points, gathering, verifying, and updating demographic, insurance, and account information to ensure accurate, timely patient data capture.

Every day you will use multiple systems to support registration, scheduling, documentation, and inquiry processes, identify and escalation of discrepancies or complex scenarios according to established procedures, assist with workflow needs during scheduled and high-volume periods, and collaborate with the healthcare team while engaging patients and families to support a positive access experience.

• Perform patient registration functions across assigned access points, ensuring accurate demographic information, insurance eligibility and benefits verification, and complete, confidential documentation within the electronic health record.
• Accurately scan, index, and manage patient documentation to support registration, billing, and clinical workflows in accordance with organizational standards.
• Communicate patient financial responsibility using established education tools and scripts, including estimates and patient liabilities, and collect payments at the time of service as appropriate.
• Schedule, confirm, and revise patient appointments to support timely access to care and adherence to provider and clinic workflows.
• Identify and resolve routine registration, insurance, and encounter discrepancies; follow established workflows to elevate complex or non-standard issues.
• Provide patient-facing support via telephone and other approved communication channels, including answering inquiries, routing calls, and documenting interactions per standard procedures.
