Patient Access Liaison (PAL) – BioMatrix Infusion Pharmacy

Role Summary

As a key member of the Intake team, a PAL-Active coordinates ongoing monthly eligibility monitoring for active patients, obtains new insurance and documentation as needed, and serves as the primary point of contact for patients, sales, physicians, and internal teams. PAL-Active works within specific team assignments, ensuring coverage for assigned patients and collaborating with data entry, reimbursement specialists, nurse coordination, and pharmacy operations to sustain the intake and pharmacy management process.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Monitor CareTend queues for active patients and review eligibility monthly.
  • Ensure authorization is on file and remove any barriers before pharmacy contact.
  • Work with patients, sales reps, and physicians to resolve insurance coverage issues.
  • Assist with pending duties as needed for coverage or additional support.
  • Maintain accurate records of provider, patient, caregiver, and field updates.
  • Communicate benefit investigation outcomes, out‑of‑pocket costs, and assistance options.
  • Coordinate with nurse staff and pharmacy operations to schedule and organize in‑home care and shipment.
  • Produce written documentation for all stakeholder updates.
  • Use workload metrics and goals to manage referral workflow and daily tasks.
  • Leverage technology and digital channels for internal and external communication.
  • Convey status, outcomes, and next steps to team members, referral sources, patients, and field resources.
Non‑essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Prioritize and handle multiple concurrent tasks and projects.
  • Understand referral profitability and reimbursement options.
  • Support general administrative activities (mailings, documentation, scheduling).
  • Flexible scheduling and willingness to work overtime when requested.
  • Show attention to detail and act as a resource to other departments.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, audits, and leadership‑requested duties.
  • Occasionally travel overnight by car or airplane.
Qualifications
  • 1–3 years of experience managing patient referral, prescription activities, or reimbursement services in infusion or specialty therapies.
  • 1–3 years of customer‑service experience in health care, meeting quality standards and evaluating customer satisfaction.
  • Experience with electronic health records or patient‑management systems.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Proficiency in medical or pharmacy terminology.
  • Moderate skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to travel up to 5% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting prescriber or healthcare provider communications related to referral or prescription services.
  • Understanding of prescription benefits, insurance/payer requirements, and verification processes.
  • Background working in a health‑care environment.
  • Knowledge of infusion therapy processes and patient needs.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing, and light lifting (up to 20–25 lbs). It involves frequent use of hands for manipulation and constant talking and hearing.
