Job summary

CentraState Healthcare System in Freehold, NJ is seeking a full-time Pathology Support Technician for the day shift. The technician processes and prepares frozen section slides for rapid diagnosis, accepts and accessiones samples, performs data entry, and prepares specimens for courier transport.

Responsibilities include equipment maintenance, inventory management, and handling of slides within the lab system.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Applied Science (A.A.S.) required.
• Previous experience in a histology laboratory or clinical laboratory strongly preferred.
• ASCP registration preferred.
• Strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively relate with all members of the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

• Prepares tissues for examination by pathologist. Fixes, embeds, cuts, stains and mounts tissue sections from surgical diagnostic cases and from autopsies.
• Prepares cytology specimens for examination using the correct cyto prep method. Operates Thin Prep instruments.
• Stains slides for Pathology review.
• Prepares frozen section specimens, with slides available to pathologist within 15 minutes of receipt.
• Participates in section quality control testing, documentation and corrective action.
• Maintains Histology equipment.
• Completes assigned responsibilities in section prior to end of shift.
• Accurately accessions, collects, and labels specimens into lab computer.
• Troubleshoots any related errors and does corrective action.
• Prepares specimens for Send Out testing with requisitions, insurance information, slide cutting, tracking and documentation.

Overview

Atlantic Health CentraState Medical Center, located in Freehold, New Jersey, is seeking a full-time Pathology Support Technician for the day shift.

The Pathology Support Technician is responsible for processing and preparing frozen section slides for rapid diagnosis, receiving and accessioning pathology samples, performing data entry as well as technical assessment of specimen integrity. The pathology support technician is also responsible for preparing pathology specimens for courier delivery to our performing laboratories. Other duties include equipment maintenance; inventory management; receipt, distribution, and return of patient pathology slides within the Atlantic Healthcare system.

Compensation Range:

$23 - $36.80 per hour

The compensation above reflects the established range from CentraState Healthcare System (CSHS) for this position at the time the job was posted. CSHS considers many factors to determine compensation, including education, experience, skills, licenses, certification, and training. As such, team member compensation may fall outside this range.

Additionally, the compensation range reflects base salary and does not include extra shift rates or incentives tied to quality, productivity, etc., as applicable.
