Job summary

MercyOne Genesis is seeking a highly motivated Pathology Assistant to join our collaborative and well-established pathology team. This role supports diagnostic services through surgical pathology, working closely with board-certified pathologists in a patient-focused environment with a mix of grossing and advanced laboratory procedures, including rare autopsy support.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathology Assistant program is required.
• ASCP certification (or eligible) is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of anatomic pathology techniques and procedures.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination and description of surgical specimens.
• Prepare and submit tissue for light microscopy and special studies.
• Coordinate and obtain specimens for advanced testing (flow cytometry, cytogenetics, cultures, immunofluorescence, electron microscopy).
• Collaborate with pathologists to determine appropriate techniques (tumor triage, frozen sections, etc.).
• Ensure accurate specimen accessioning and documentation.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and assist with CAP and Joint Commission inspections.
