Job summary

Johns Hopkins Intrastaff, the internal staffing arm of Johns Hopkins Health System, seeks a Pathologist Assistant to support surgical pathology services at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Responsibilities include gross examination, dissection, specimen handling, and collaboration with pathologists.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a NAACLS accredited post baccalaureate Pathologists’ Assistant Training Program.
• ASCP BOR certified (or eligible) or equivalent in biological or allied health sciences and Pathologist Assistant/Grossing experience.
• Must be certified PA (ASCP or department approved certifying agency).
• Minimum of 1 year experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide gross examination and dissection of all surgical pathology specimens under supervision of a pathologist.
• Obtain specimens from operating rooms and perform appropriate examination including frozen sectioning and reported gross.
• Specimen photography and radiography as needed.
• Collect and distribute tissue to tumor bank and investigators.
• Dissect and describe specimens with accurate tissue selection per protocol.
• Verify patient information on specimens and requisitions with high accuracy.
