Job summary

The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD is seeking a Pathologists' Assistant to perform gross examination and dissection of surgical pathology specimens under supervision of a pathologist. Responsibilities include specimen handling, gross description, and preparation for histology.

Qualifications include completion of NAACLS accredited PA training with ASCP BOR certification (or eligible) and high complexity testing eligibility.

Qualifications

• Education must qualify individual for high complexity testing per regulatory guidelines.
• Prior experience preferred.
• Clinical training and rotation required.

Responsibilities

• Performs gross examination and dissection of surgical pathology specimens, including complex resections.
• Obtains specimens from operating rooms and performs examination including frozen sectioning and reported gross.
• Specimen photography and radiography as needed.
• Collects and distributes tissue to tumor bank and investigators.
• Assists in training house staff and students in grossing and processing; photography, radiography, cryostats and staining setups, tissue banking and daily operation of grossing rooms.

Education

NAACLS accredited post baccalaureate Pathologists' Assistant Training Program and ASCP BOR certified (or ASCP BOR eligible) or Bachelor's degree in biological/aligned sciences and ASCP BOR certified (with Pathologists' Assistant/Grossing experience)
