Job summary

SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, IL, is hiring a Pathologist Assistant on a full-time basis. You will assist pathologists in preparing and grossing specimens for histology, and you will work under the supervision of surgical pathologists.

Requirements include a master's degree from an NAACLS accredited Pathology program and ASCP certification within six months of hire. Relocation assistance is available for qualified applicants, and the position is in the Pathology department

Qualifications

• Master's degree from an NAACLS accredited program in Pathology is preferred/required.
• ASCP certification required within 6 months of hire date.
• Bachelor's degree with an emphasis on anatomy and physiology or equivalent years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist pathologists in preparing and grossing specimens for routine histology testing and staining.
• Raise specimens, label, process, and preserve them according to protocol.
• Provide gross dictation under supervision of surgical pathologist.
• Review gross dictation and slides before handing them to the pathologist.
• Maintain working supplies and prepare frozen sections as needed.
