Job summary

Albany Medical Center (AMC) is seeking a Pathologists’ Assistant to join the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Capital Region’s only academic medical center. The role involves complex surgical pathology and close collaboration with pathologists and residents.

You will work alongside subspecialty pathologists, residents, histology staff, and other laboratory professionals in a busy academic environment, contributing to education and best-practice laboratory workflows.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program.
• ASCP certification as a Pathologists’ Assistant (PA(ASCP)).
• Current New York State Pathologists’ Assistant license (or eligibility to obtain).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with subspecialty pathologists, residents and histology staff in a busy academic setting.
• Contribute to education and laboratory practices within the surgical pathology team.
• Work both independently and with the pathology team to manage a high-volume case mix.

Albany Medical Center (AMC) is seeking a Pathologists’ Assistant to join the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Capital Region’s only academic medical center.

This is an opportunity for a Pathologists’ Assistant who enjoys complex and diverse surgical pathology, meaningful professional autonomy, close collaboration with pathologists and residents, and an active role in education and laboratory practice.

Our Pathologists’ Assistants are integral members of the surgical pathology team. You will work alongside subspecialty pathologists, pathology residents, histology professionals, and other laboratory staff in a busy academic environment with a broad and challenging case mix.

What We’re Looking For:

• Master’s degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program, ASCP certification as a Pathologists’ Assistant (PA(ASCP)), and current New York State Pathologists’ Assistant license (or eligibility to obtain New York State licensure).
• Strong knowledge of gross anatomy, surgical pathology, specimen handling, and laboratory safety
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a high-volume academic environment
• Previous experience in an academic or high-volume surgical pathology practice preferred but not required.

• Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm or 8:30am-5:00pm
