Job summary

Weatherby Healthcare seeks a pathologist or pathology professional for locum tenens coverage in Alabama. Typical workload includes a general pathology mix with heavy GI biopsies and non-gyn cytology, plus FNA smears in radiology and touch preps for biopsy adequacy.

Afternoon grossing is done by pathologists with no PA on staff. The assignment offers paid malpractice insurance, pre-paid travel and housing, and 24/7 access to a Weatherby consultant, with Weatherby as a charter member of NALTO.

Qualifications

• General pathology mix with heavy GI biopsy and non-gyn cytology.
• FNA smears in radiology with touch preps for biopsy adequacy.

Responsibilities

• Cover a pathology assignment with a general pathology mix including GI biopsies and non-gyn cytology.
• Perform FNA smears in radiology and assess biopsy adequacy.
• Work alongside pathologists with on-site afternoon grossing; liaise with staff; no PA on site.
• Handle occasional vacation coverage and travel arrangements.

Job description

• 7:30 am - 3 pm, Mon - Fri -- rare evening calls handled by phone
• 20 - 30 cases per day
• General pathology mix -- heavy GI biopsy and non-gyn cytology
• Peripheral smear reviews, blood bank questions included in workload
• FNA smears in radiology -- touch preps for biopsy adequacy
• Pathologists gross in the afternoon -- no PA on staff
• No autopsies -- most bone marrows sent out
