Responsibilities

• Portfolio management
• Managing outside counsel for strategic preparation and prosecution of patent assets
• Drafting responses to official communications
• Interviewing patent examiners
• Performing patent analyses including infringement, clearance, patentability, and validity analyses
• Collaborating with counsel across multiple jurisdictions to ensure compliance with local jurisdictional practices and laws
• Participating in design‑around analysis
• License and contract analysis
• Performing due diligence analysis for potential acquisitions and investments

Minimum Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate degree or international equivalent
• 5+ years of relevant experience as counsel at a law firm or in‑house
• Active bar license to practice law in the state or jurisdiction where the employee will be practicing (or ability to obtain upon hiring)

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
• 5+ years of patent law experience at a law firm or in‑house
• 3+ years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution
• 2+ years of engineering experience in software, electrical, communications, or related fields
• 2+ years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution in software, electrical, communications, or related fields
• 2+ years of managing a portfolio, including budgets
• US: Admitted to a state bar and in good standing
• 2+ years of experience in patent preparation, prosecution, or litigation experience
• Applicants must be willing to register as in‑house counsel with CA state bar if not already a member of Cal state bar
