Job summary

Sterlington PLLC seeks a Patent Attorney to join our team and handle drafting and prosecution of patent applications for technology clients, especially in cellular and wireless spaces. You will work directly with inventors and in-house counsel, manage deadlines, and coordinate foreign prosecution while upholding high standards.

The ideal candidate has 2–5 years of patent experience, a technical degree in EE/CS/Physics, and USPTO registration.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from ABA-accredited law school; transcript required.
  • Licensed and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Registered to practice before the USPTO.
  • Bachelor’s or higher in Electrical Engineering, CS, Physics, or related field.
  • 2–5 years patent preparation and prosecution experience.
  • Experience with cellular and wireless technologies (3GPP, LTE, 5G/6G) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and prosecute U.S. patent applications in wireless/ cellular tech.
  • Coordinate foreign prosecution with international counsel.
  • Prepare responses to Office Actions and manage deadlines.
  • Work with inventors and in-house counsel to develop protection.
  • Collaborate on patent strategy, portfolio development, and counseling.
  • Analyze disclosures, standards, and prior art for prosecution strategies.

We are seeking a Patent Attorney to take on a meaningful role in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications for technology clients.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Patent Attorney to take on a meaningful role in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications for technology clients, particularly in the cellular and wireless communications space. The position offers significant responsibility, direct client interaction, and the opportunity to work on sophisticated and technically demanding patent portfolios.

The successful candidate will have strong patent drafting and prosecution skills, excellent technical judgment, and the ability to understand complex technologies and translate them into clear and strategically valuable patent claims.

What You’ll Do:
  • Draft and prosecute U.S. patent applications involving wireless communications, cellular technologies, networking, signal processing, and related technologies.
  • Coordinate foreign patent prosecution and work with international counsel on global patent portfolios.
  • Prepare responses to Office Actions and manage deadlines across an active patent prosecution docket.
  • Work directly with inventors and in-house counsel to understand new technologies and develop appropriate patent protection.
  • Collaborate with partners and other practitioners on patent strategy, portfolio development, and client counseling.
  • Analyze technically complex disclosures, standards, and prior art and translate them into effective patent prosecution strategies.
  • Manage matters with a high degree of independence while maintaining consistently high standards for technical and legal work.
What We’re Looking For:
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school; law school transcript required.
  • Licensed and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Approximately 2 –5 years of patent preparation and prosecution experience.
  • Experience with, or strong working knowledge of, cellular and wireless technologies preferred, including areas such as 3GPP standards, LTE, 5G, 6G, RF systems, baseband processing, wireless protocols, signal processing, or networking.
  • Excellent patent drafting and technical writing skills, including the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear and defensible patent claims.
  • Strong academic crede ntials and demonstrated ability to manage matters independently with appropriate oversight.
  • Must be based in the United States to support applicable client requirements.
  • Experience using AI-enabled legal or productivity tools, such as Claude or Harvey, is a plus.
