This role is critical to maintaining the security, stability, and compliance of the enterprise IT environment. The Patch Management Technician is responsible for the timely and effective patching of workstations, servers, operating systems, and applications across the organization.
The technician will partner closely with infrastructure, security, and application teams to coordinate patching activities, reduce operational risk, minimize user impact, and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
Core Responsibilities
- Coordinate, schedule, and execute patching activities across Windows, Linux, and other supported operating systems
- Leverage Tanium to deploy, monitor, and validate patches across enterprise endpoints and servers
- Apply updates to enterprise applications, third-party software, and system components
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and application teams to plan, test, and validate patch deployments
- Monitor patch compliance and remediation status; generate reports for leadership, audits, and security reviews
- Troubleshoot patch-related issues and coordinate escalation when necessary
- Maintain and optimize patch management tools, configurations, and automation scripts
- Stay current with vendor patch releases, security advisories, and industry best practices
- Assist in the development, documentation, and continuous improvement of patch management policies and procedures
- Support vulnerability remediation efforts in partnership with the information security team

- Proven ability to proactively plan and execute system upgrades across enterprise environments (e.g., Microsoft OS, macOS, SCCM, Azure)

- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to clearly transfer technical knowledge to peers and stakeholders
- Working knowledge of moderately complex to complex hardware and software products
- Experience with IT service management systems
- Familiarity with remote support tools (e.g., Bomgar)
- Hands‑on experience with Tanium highly preferred
Education & Experience
Required:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
- 2+ years of experience in systems administration or IT operations with a focus on patch management
- MCSE or equivalent professional certification
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science
- A+, Network+, or Microsoft Certified Desktop Technician (MCDT) certifications
