The Pastoral Resident serves a two-year term as an ordained member of Fourth’s pastoral staff whose ministry is validated by the Presbytery of Chicago. Their responsibilities include pastoral leadership over multiple areas of ministry on a rotating basis. They also include designated times and activities for reflecting on pastoral leadership and identity.
During their term, the Pastoral Resident will spend time supporting the work of multiple session committees and councils, as well as the Board of Deacons.
Meet regularly with the Senior Associate Pastor for reflection and assessment, and to coordinate work
Provide pastoral support and leadership to ministries on a rotating basis, including ministries of Faith Formation, Connection and Belonging, Care, and Community Engagement, including
Lead worship regularly, including writing liturgy and leading prayers and greetings, reading Scripture and, occasionally, preaching.
Participate in Ministry Team, Program Staff, All Staff, session, and Presbytery of Chicago meetings
Meet regularly for reflection and assessment with members of the Residency Advisory Committee
Shepherd a ministry project over the course of the residency. This project should pursue defined goals and objectives and produce a measurable outcome for the congregation.
In consultation with leaders of Fourth Church and the PC(USA), undertake and utilize denominational process for discerning and receiving a call to installed ministry at the conclusion of the residency program.
Other duties as assigned.
