Job description

Pastor of Students & Worship

Full-Time | Approximately 40 hours per week

About Lake Norman Vineyard

Lake Norman Vineyard is a Vineyard church serving the growing Lake Norman area north of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Our vision is to see people restored by Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit, equipped to do the works of the Kingdom, and sent to extend His Kingdom to others.

We value biblical teaching, authentic community, the presence and ministry of the Holy Spirit, compassionate outreach, and the Vineyard emphasis on equipping ordinary people to “do the stuff” of the Kingdom.

The Position

The Youth & Worship Pastor is a full-time pastoral position with a primary focus on youth ministry and responsibility for leading and developing the church’s worship ministry. We are looking for a relational, spiritually mature leader who loves students, cultivates authentic, intimate congregational worship, and equips others to serve.

The anticipated weekly allocation is approximately 30 hours for youth ministry and 10 hours for worship ministry.

This role centers on developing people and building healthy ministry teams. The pastor will recruit, equip, organize, and empower volunteers and ministry leaders while ensuring that ministry responsibilities are carried through.

Youth Ministry

Provide spiritual, relational, and organizational leadership for students in grades 6–12 and their families.

Spiritual Formation & Weekly Ministry

  • Develop and lead engaging, biblically faithful weekly youth gatherings that help students understand and practice the Christian faith.
  • Help students develop habits of prayer, Scripture, worship, service, and Christian community.
  • Create opportunities for students to encounter and respond to the Holy Spirit, and teach and model Vineyard Kingdom ministry, including the Five-Step Prayer Model

Relational Discipleship & Family Ministry

  • Build meaningful relationships with students and their families, providing appropriate pastoral care, encouragement, prayer, and discipleship.
  • Partner with parents in their students’ spiritual formation and maintain consistent, effective communication with students and parents.
  • Connect students with the broader worship, community, service, and mission of the church.

Outreach & Growth

  • Develop an intentional strategy for reaching students who are not connected to the church through school, community, service, and relational outreach.
  • Create a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable inviting friends, and provide thoughtful, personal follow-up with first-time students.
  • Equip students to naturally share their faith and participate in the mission of Jesus.

Camps, Events & Ministry Development

  • Develop an annual youth-ministry calendar and plan and lead camps, retreats, service opportunities, outreach events, and social activities.
  • Maintain safe, organized, and effective ministry systems, applying principles from Sustainable Youth Ministry in ways appropriate to the church’s size and context.
Worship Ministry

Lead and develop worship that helps the congregation encounter and respond to God. Pursue musical excellence, prepared teams, and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit while keeping congregational participation central.

Sunday Worship & Production
The Worship Leader provides primary leadership for Sunday morning worship and oversees the production teams and systems that support the service.

Responsibilities include:

  • Plan and lead congregational worship on Sunday mornings.
Select songs that fit the Vineyard tradition and the ministry direction of Lake Norman Vineyard.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Pastor regarding sermon themes, special services, and worship direction.
  • Prepare services through Planning Center.
  • Schedule musicians and vocalists.
  • Lead or oversee weekly rehearsals.
  • Encourage and develop worship-team members both musically and spiritually.
  • Create opportunities for qualified emerging musicians and worship leaders to begin serving on Sundays.
  • The Worship Leader also provides oversight for our A/V teams including sound, livestream, classroom and lobby feeds, and ProPresenter/slides

Developing Worship Leaders
We want to intentionally develop musicians and worship leaders from within the congregation, specifically a youth worship team and small group worship leaders.

We currently have leadership in place for both Youth Worship and Small Group Worship Leader development. The Worship Leader will work collaboratively with these leaders, along with other ministry leaders, to identify people with musical gifts and leadership potential and help create a healthy pathway for their continued development.

Our goal is to see people:

Identified → Equipped → Given Opportunities → Evaluated → Released

As musicians and leaders demonstrate musical competency, reliability, spiritual maturity, humility, teachability, and a heart for helping others worship, the Worship Leader will help create appropriate opportunities for them to begin serving with the Sunday Worship Team.

Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a growing relationship with Jesus and an active life of worship and prayer.
  • Is aligned with Vineyard theology, worship values, and ministry practice.
  • Loves middle and high school students, can teach Scripture in engaging and biblically faithful ways, and values partnering with parents.
  • Has experience leading contemporary congregational worship, strong vocal and/or instrumental ability, and the ability to lead a band.
  • Values congregational participation, sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, and the development of other people.
  • Is dependable, humble, relational, teachable, and collaborative, with strong communication, organization, and follow-through.
  • Has enough familiarity with live sound, livestreaming, presentation software, and church production systems to train and support volunteers.
Compensation & Development
  • Starting salary: $45,000 annually, with compensation based on experience and qualifications.
  • Eligible for a designated ministerial housing allowance when applicable
  • Relocation assistance
  • Ongoing ministry-development support, including appropriate Vineyard USA national and regional conferences and training opportunities
