Job summary

Westminster Theological Seminary is seeking a Pastor of Student Ministry to lead outreach and discipleship for middle and high school students. This role includes planning weekly youth group meetings, coordinating Sunday School curriculum, and recruiting adult volunteers for the ministry.

Additionally, the Pastor will have opportunities to expand into young adult ministry and provide pastoral care and evangelism training within the community.

Qualifications

• Experience in youth ministry, particularly with middle and high school students.
• Ability to recruit and train volunteers.
• Strong pastoral counseling skills for students and families.

Job description

The Pastor of Student Ministry shapes the outreach and discipleship ministries for our middle school and high school students. Rooted in the grace of the gospel, we have the joy of sharing that good news with our community. Equipping students for gospel application in their own lives and gospel ministry among our neighbors is the heart of our student ministry. The core of this pastoral position focuses on youth ministry, but depending on the candidate’s experience, the position includes opportunities to expand into ministry to young adults and broader adult discipleship through community groups, Sunday School, and adult discipleship groups.

Student Ministry

1. Overall responsibility for student ministry, grades 7–12.
2. Plan teaching ministry and lead weekly youth group meetings, monthly activities, and annual retreats.
3. Coordinate Youth Sunday School curriculum, teachers, and training.
4. Recruit, train, and oversee adult volunteers.
5. Provide continual emphasis on discipleship of youth in their Christian growth.
6. Pastoral counseling of students and families.
7. Coordinate annual short-term summer missions project.

Adult Discipleship

1. For the right candidate, this role includes expanded opportunities in young adult ministry and broader congregational discipleship in coordination with elders.
2. Fellowship, outreach, and discipleship for young adults.
3. Help coordinate adult training in weekly Sunday School.
4. Coordinate small groups ministry to adults.
5. Strengthen the church in its evangelism through training and community outreach.
6. Opportunities to preach and provide pastoral care in coordination with the Senior Pastor.
