Qualificações

Immanuel Baptist Church is prayerfully seeking its next Lead Pastor to shepherd our congregation into a vital new season of ministry. Nestled in a mature residential neighborhood in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Immanuel is a deeply faithful body of believers founded on September 11, 1959.

We are a stable, multi-ethnic group with an average attendance of 75, with a history of long tenured pastors of 10+ years. Our previous pastor served with us for 20 years, before being called home to be the Lord. We are seeking a generational bridge-builder who values our mature congregation while passionately pursuing the hearts of young families. We are seeking a visionary leader who faithfully preaches and teaches God’s Word, shepherds God’s people, honors our rich history of local and global mission engagement, while effectively equipping our diverse membership for future local impact.

• Affiliations: Proudly cooperating with the Southern Baptist Convention and actively affiliated with the Baptist Convention of Iowa (BCI)
• Cultural Fabric: Our church family is enriched by diverse multi-cultural backgrounds.
• Financial Health: Debt-free, financially conservative, and stable.
• Great Commission Focus: We allocate 10% of all undesignated receipts directly to external missions, including BCI state church planting support and targeted local ministries within Cedar Rapids.
• The church leadership structure includes elders and deacons. The pastor is the head elder. Elders provide spiritual oversight of the church. They serve the church by teaching sound doctrine, protecting the church from errant teaching, and equipping the members for the work of the ministry to build up the body of Christ. They can assist the pastor in visitation and spiritual counseling and prayer as needed.
• Deacons serve as vital caregivers, ensuring that the facilities’ needs are met in a manner that upholds the unity and spiritual health of the congregation. They oversee the use of benevolence funds, supervise custodial staff, control & supervise all physical property, building use, property inventory, support all phases of the church programs and other duties as delegated to them by the Lead Pastor and elders.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Our next Lead Pastor will step into a warm, structurally stable environment that is culturally ready for collaborative growth. We are seeking a leader who meets the following criteria:

Preaching & Teaching

• Plan and conduct the worship services; prepare and deliver sermons; lead in observations of baptisms and the Lord’s Supper.
• Demonstrates a high view of Scripture, delivering deep, doctrinally sound, and relevant sermons.
• Cross-Cultural Competence: Possesses the cultural intelligence to preach across diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, utilizing broadly relatable illustrations.

Spiritual Leadership & Vision

• Transition Leader: Possesses the patience and wisdom to guide a mature church through structural and generational transition without sacrificing unity.
• Collaborative Builder: Able to partner effectively with our active lay leadership and elder board to cultivate structural diversity and develop leadership pipelines.
• Guide and train leaders to effectively lead and serve
• Lead and encourage members in spiritual growth

Encourage Missions

• Cooperative Program funds support both state level and global missions, theological education, and national ministries.

• State Missions-Church plants & missionaries in the state of Iowa
• Cultivate intentional personal relationships and lead strategic prayer for individuals and missionaries as a church body.

Community Liaison-Support and participate in service events during the year, such as National Day of Prayer.

Pastoral Care & Heart

• Shepherd’s Heart: Displays genuine care for multi-generational needs, prioritizing hospital visits, family counseling, weddings, funerals and personal relationships.
• Community Connector: Eager to live within and engage the Cedar Rapids community, serving as a bridge between the neighborhood and the church.
• Exemplifies how to contend biblically to bring and be a blessing to the community (Prov 11:11, 12:26, 28:4, Matthew 16.18, Eph 5:6-11.)

Administrative Leadership

• Foster a culture of unity, trust, humility, transparency and collaboration among the staff and church membership
• Giving and hospitable in attitude and practice

Qualifications

• Demonstrates the biblical qualifications of a pastor outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.
• Affirms and fully aligns with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
• Born again, Spirit filled, with a strong devotional life, dependent on God’s presence
• Creative in conducting the ministry and applying new ideas with a focus on growing the membership into a multi-generational congregation.
• Endeavoring to make biblical knowledge attractive (Prov 15.2 CSB) through teaching and preaching and stimulating instruction (Titus 1:9 Amp)
• Ever Seeking to grow in knowledge and wisdom (Prov 18:15)
• Train and equip leader(s) in Worship Leadership desired, but not required
• Train and equip leader(s) in Youth leadership desired, but not required
• Experience in ministry leadership within a diverse congregation is highly preferred.

Education

• Associate of Divinity (ADiv) or Diploma in Theology (DipTh) or equivalent minimum education
• Bachelor of Divinity (BD) or Master of Divinity (MDiv) preferred

Salary & Benefits

• Salary and benefits package to include Salary & Housing allowance, retirement contribution, dental insurance, vision insurance, long term disability insurance, term life insurance and a health insurance stipend. Additional information available upon request.
• Paid time off to include 21 days PTO including up to 3 Sundays out of pulpit, 6 sick days, one day off during the week determined by mutual agreement.
